For the last few weekends we’ve been experimenting with a vinegar and baking soda rocket. This is the second iteration
After the last iteration, as the sled accelerated away, it hit the back tyre of the ute and bent both axles. This iteration we strengthened the axles and more accurately measured ratio of vinegar and baking soda.
This was all part of the previous iteration:
- Sriracha bottle – surprisingly good at holding gas pressure and has a twisty top to easily release pressure
- 3D printed nose cone
- 3D printed fins
- Baking soda
- Vinegar

This iteration we added:
- 3D printed cart using bamboo chopsticks for axles
- Better ratio of vinegar to baking soda (12:1)

The axle was much better – we have a drawer full of bamboo chopsticks for use in other projects. The thrust was much better and there was very little residue in left in the bottle.
Next iteration is to have another attempt at an upright standing rocket with the adjusted rations and bigger fins for better directional control.
Nice write up!
